Google describes Sidewiki as a way "to contribute helpful information next to any webpage." While it has been said to make browsers more social Sidewiki also has the potential to make all websites more social - even those that did not previously allow it.
That said, some investment bloggers are worried that this powerful new feature will be abused.
To see for myself, I enabled the Sidewiki notification bar (under Toolbar options) and explored some websites. Though I didn't find much in the way of useful information, what was telling was that many of the most influential social media experts hadn't written Sidewiki's on their Twitter profiles.
For those that would like to try it out, I've done up a couple examples:
- For my first Sidewiki entry (seen here) I put a welcome message for page visitors. As the page owner, I wrote a special entry that will remain the top entry for the page.
- For my second Sidewiki entry, I wrote about how to share Sidewiki entries through email, Twitter, and Facebook and shared a tweet with a link to the entry.
